HOW DOES THE “DRIVING SCHOOL” DIFFER FROM THE
“HPDE” (High Performance Driving Event)?
The “Driving School” course is designed for those who are
interested in beginning racing yet fun for those who want to learn more about car
control. This course is required for those who have never been on the track before,
but is open to those who have had previous track experience. This course is also
required for those who are using this school as their required school for seeking an
ICSCC competition license. Typically beginners and experienced students will be in
different groups. There is a four hour classroom session the evening before the “on
track” experience that covers vehicle dynamics (weight transfer, the correct throttle,
brake, and steering inputs needed for different situations, and more). All “Driving
School” course students will receive our Driver Training Manual. The day at the track
will begin with a Driver’s Meeting, then a drive around the track with an instructor
that will help familiarize you with the track, the “racing” line, passing zones, and
corner station locations. After the drive around, you will begin your first of four 20
minute sessions out on the track with an instructor. After all sessions are completed
we will do a simulated race start for students considering racing. At the end of the
day you will receive an evaluation sheet with instructor comments and your certificate
of completion.
The “HPDE” course is designed for those who have had previous track experience and are
looking to hone their driving skills. The classroom session is not required for “HPDE”
course entrants, but entrants are encouraged to attend. The day at the track will begin
with a Driver’s Meeting, and then your first of four 20 minute sessions out on the
track will be soon after. An instructor will ride with “HPDE” entrants for the first
session to make sure that the entrant is OK to go solo. Instructors at the track will
be more than happy to answer any questions you may have or offer advice throughout the
day. Don’t be afraid to ask!
Typically we will run four groups. Beginner “Driving School” course entrants will not
be combined with “HPDE” course entrants. We will run at least one group of each.
Typically group sizes will be 20 cars or less. Cars will be grouped based on driver
experience and car potential.
