Doernbecher History: In 1984, Cascade took Doernbecher
Children?s Hospital as their charity. Over the years, there have been different
activities to raise money. We give rides at noon in both racecars and exotic cars, such as
the Dodge Vipers. This has become a popular fund-raiser for us. In 1998, a silent auction
was started after one of our race workers, Danny Frasier, passes away at Doernbecher.
Every year, the auction has grown by leaps and bounds with Danny?s spirit always felt.
The auction is the biggest source of income for our fund-raiser. Each year we receive
hundreds of items from local and national businesses. In 2002, the auction was renamed to
the Danny Frasier Silent Auction.
Doernbecher Race History: The Doernbecher Dash usually is held in September,
although for a few years, it was held in August. This is a regular amateur racing event
for the Cascade Sports Car Club. You can see over 200 cars of all varieties. Whether they
are a sedan or an open wheel formula car, it?s all great racing. There is practice and
qualifying on Saturday and qualifying and racing on Sunday. The public is invited to come
out and see amateur racing at it?s best.
Kid?s Karavan: The Kid?s Karavan is an exciting event for the kid?s that are
patients at Doernbecher Children?s Hospital. Whether they are an in-patient or out-patient,
on Sunday of our event, the kids and their families are invited to join us. Lunch is
provided, then the kids are taken out in racecars for a mock race of three laps. The kids
are greeted by flag waving at all the corner stations. They receive checkered flags,
plaques, and goody bags. We have been lucky in the past with good weather, although it?s
hard to predict what Mother Nature will do.
Doernbecher Dash Committee: Our committee consists of some very hard working
people.
